The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology published India's AI governance guidelines under the IndiaAI Mission, ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
The approach
The guidelines describe a flexible, adaptive framework that encourages innovation while reducing risk to people. They include sandboxes for testing. They set out seven guiding principles, recommendations across six governance pillars and an action plan with short, medium and long-term steps.
What it means for buyers
The guidelines are guidance, not a statute. Sector regulators such as the RBI add their own expectations. Ask a vendor which guidance they follow and how they would show it to you.
